Bronx, NY School leadership, students, former NY Knick John Wallace, borough president Vanessa Gibson and the project team of developer Pillar Property Management, the architectural team of ESKW/Architects and IMC Architecture, construction manager JV Construction & Consulting, structural engineer CityScape Engineering and general contractor Brisa Builders celebrated a topping-out for the Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School (EMNRBS). During the event, the guests, students and the project team members signed the last steel beam to be installed atop the building.

School leadership, students, former NY Knick John Wallace, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson and the project team celebrated the topping out for the $35-million Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School in the South Bronx. Reportedly it will be the first of its kind in the nation: a purpose-built, specialized high school with an academic curriculum designed around basketball and the many career paths associated with the global game.

Bronx, NY Basketball Hall of Famer Earl Monroe and school founder Dan Klores led the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School (EMNRBS) in Mott Haven. They were joined by NBA commissioner Adam Silver, Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier, Julius Randle, the co-chairman of the school’s board of trustees Jack Irushalmi, Pillar Property Management principal Kiumarz Geula, IMC architecture principal Jonathan Imani, AIA, and ESKW/Architects partner Kimberly Murphy, AIA.

Basketball Hall of Famer Earl “The Pearl” Monroe led the groundbreaking celebration of the high school named in his honor, The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. Designed by ESKW/Architects and IMC Architecture, the new five-story building is scheduled to open its doors in early 2026.

The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School, a new five-story building located at 647 Elton Avenue in Mott Haven, Bronx, recently celebrated its groundbreaking with a ceremony led by New York Knicks legend Earl ‘The Pearl’ Monroe.

At today’s groundbreaking for the Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School in the South Bronx, all eyes will be on the school’s namesake, a legendary player known as Earl the Pearl, as well as NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and other hoops dignitaries.
